Bring Opera To Your School!
Not Just Figaro: Opera Made Easy for Young Audiences: a 45-minute introduction to opera, featuring some of the best-loved and familiar songs from opera throughout history. Professional singers in costumes will demonstrate the various voice types, discuss the music, and narrate the story lines. The students are also asked to participate throughout the show. They are taught a short excerpt of music to perform with the singers and are also called on to participate in various scenes. Best of all, the students will be able to meet the cast and ask questions following the program.

Opera Theatre North is a featured performer at Ravinia Festival’s Kraft Kids Concert series (sold out!) for three consecutive years.

We have found that opera and classical music generally receive short shrift in public school arts programming. Founder and Managing Director Marla Forbes felt a growing need within the community to present professional opera in an understandable and approachable way, and to expose new audiences to this art form. Echoing our mission to produce high quality, creatively narrated opera to audiences of all ages, we are now in our tenth performing season, and have presented outreach programs for students in grades K-8 for the past five years. Our high caliber productions, led by Music Director Francesco Milioto, use only professional singers hailing from highly acclaimed programs such as Lyric Opera Center for American Artists, Chicago Opera Theater, Santa Fe Opera Young Artist Program and Houston Opera Studio.

Program Fee:
$1,000 for a single performance
$1,800 for two consecutive performances at one location

Availability:
September 30-December 15, 2006 and March 1-May 31, 2007

Includes 3-4 singers, costumes, props, pianist, preparatory materials, and suggested supplemental reading for teachers.
